Club Champs coming up and the greens running true

Perfect fairways and greens

Hello everyone,

With Club Champs coming up and the greens running true, we can only hope that you enjoy every moment as we enjoyed preparing the course for you. The course will be set up to test all golfers, let’s hope the weather plays along!

Work On The Course
We have added a coaching tee at the back of the range to enable Ryan and his team for a private coaching area that will add that personal touch to the coaching, we will be seeding this tee shortly as soon as the irrigation pipe goes in, hopefully early next week.

We have also seeded the 16th Pro tee with a bent Rye seed mix as another test for the perfect tee surface. The bubbles in the irrigation dam are still visible, but I think Roland finally came up with the plan that should help to get rid of the bubbles.

We took soil samples of all the greens recently and also most tees and other problem areas on the course, I should have the results back within the next couple of weeks to work on a better program that will over time resolve most deficiencies in the soil. The area that I want to sort out most of all on the course will have to be the first landing area that doesn’t seem to pull through like the rest of the course, even after adding more drainage it still struggles to grow. We will be looking at separate spraying programs to change the soil structure over time and to get rid of the salt build up in this area. This is the first impression that any visitor takes home from the course and we will do what we can to make it a good impression. We have sodded this area again before club champs and it will play as G.U.R during the tournament.

After club champs, bring your friends for more golf to enjoy a truly special golf course with great surroundings and great people and of course then there will be the fantastic clubhouse with the unbeatable fireplaces during this winter to sit and talk about that Birdie that got away.

Looking forward to see you all on the weekend.

Regards,
Charl Blaauw

heading towards Easter

Hello everyone,

We are heading towards Easter and the year is running away from us at a rapid pace. With the temperatures starting to drop we are desperately trying to finish all our projects and give the grass time to recover before the growth slows down. With Club champs approaching our goal is to get the best possible surface for everyone to play on.

The biggest challenge on the course at this stage is to get the 12th fairway back to perfect, the team added drainage and it seems to be drying out well, this will hopefully be enough to get the grass growing and to stop damage from the carts going over wet areas.

Drainage added on the 12th

Sunrise over the 13th dam

Roland is currently fitting a non return valve to the lining of the dam on the 14th and then connecting a pump to the valve in order to drop the lining to below the water surface. The area in front of the 14th dam looks great and the plan is definitely working well.

Projects coming up:
- We will be creating a path next to the 6th tees that will give carts a proper area to turn around.
- We will be giving some extra TLC to the 14th landing area to ensure a smooth playing surface
- We will be adding a practice tee to the back of the range for Ryan to do his teaching
- The new area in front of the 14th will be seeded.
- And the paths to the tees will be hollow-tined and topdressed.
- We are currently busy with drainage on the 18th and in the same process levelling the trench that ran across the fairway.

Happy Golfing to all,

Charl Blaauw
