KEEP A SHARP EYE OUT FOR OUR BABIES

Picture 1: This Dikkop (or Thick-knee as they are now called) challenged an Isuzu bakkie, wings out and tail up, very aggressive. The driver reversed and very carefully tip-toed out of the bakkie to investigate.

Picture 2: There on the ground exactly where the bakkie was about to go was the nest with its two eggs that the courageous bird was protecting.

Picture 3: A week later two little balls of fluff were in the vicinity of the nest. Very newly hatched, extremely well camouflaged and so obedient. They lay absolutely dead still, didn’t even blink, while there was “danger” around. Here is one of them, so tiny and vulnerable.
